Artist’s background: Celina lives in the community of Clyde River, Nunavut. Growing up, she spent her summers camping with her family and learned to hunt alongside her father. During that time, she also developed skills in traditional animal skin preparation. Today, she works with sealskin, polar bear hide, and leather, creating a range of handmade items.
Guided by the knowledge of community elders, Celina learned how to make kamiks and tents, and she now crafts her own. She sews traditional clothing, including wind pants and parkas for her husband and children, and also crochets hats for both adults and babies. She continues to sew regularly and enjoys going berry picking with her grandchildren.
