Artist’s background: Ester grew up in Clyde River and as a small child when she lived with her grandparents in their outpost camp. Their she watched her grandmother and older sisters make traditional clothing. Ester learned how to do basic sewing when she moved into the community and was in high school. As she got older, she wanted to make clothing and everyone told her to learn it herself. She began to teach herself how to make parkas and amauti. She now makes her husband’s and children’s parkas and hunting outfits. She recently is now just learning to make kamiks. Ester now lives in Arctic Bay with her husband and children, sewing for her family and going out on the land.
