Tools That Turn Ideas into Art

For everything from custom ulus to qamutiq sleds, the Work Shop provides workbenches, power tools, and expert guidance. Artists of all skill levels can prototype, repair, or experiment – always framed by Inuit values of safety, sharing, and respect for materials.


Power, Precision, Possibility

  • 14 m² bench room (#314) with ventilation
  • Table-saw, chop-saw, cordless drills, sanders
  • MIG / TIG welder for light-metal projects
  • Hand-tool wall: chisels, rasps, clamps, mallets
  • Lockers available for in-progress work

Come and share country food and conversation with fellow Inuit or have some tea and palaugaq, (free Wi-Fi.)

Tuesday and Thursday afternoon/evening shop project sessions

Drop by to see what we are working on and with your own idea of projects. Our instructors will help you.

One-on-one mentoring (1-5 Wednesday-Friday)

Accessing Isaruit’s shop instructors and elders to work on traditional tool making and to hear some stories

Monthly Market Days

Sell finished pieces or accept custom orders (no table fee for Inuit artists)

Website & social gallery development

Staff can coach you in protecting the copyright of your works, and help you  photograph and post your work to help you reach buyers

Safety & Training

Learn the Right Way First

First-time users of the shop must complete a two-hour orientation covering PPE, machine setup, and Inuit harvesting ethics – how caring for materials and work starts with caring for ourselves and the land. Quarterly “Tool Refresh” sessions keep everyone current.
