Role: Coordinating Isaruit Inuit Youth Connections through Isaruit programs
Responsibilities:
- Reach out to Inuit youths in the Ottawa area and encourage them to attend Isaruit’s Inuit cultural programs and creative spaces – in WorkShop, Sewing, Seal Products and Inuit cultural consultations and awareness sessions, and Reconciliation
- Working collaboratively with other Isaruit staff to introduce Inuit youths to Inuit arts
- Helping Inuit youths becoming involved in Inuit cultural activities and language
- Keeping administrative records
- Being trained as a youth coordinator
- Visioning and planning youth programs with Isaruit Board and staff
Requirements:
- Between the ages of 20 and 29
- Good written and verbal English skills; Good verbal and written Inuktitut skills (or a willingness to improve and extend basic Inuktitut listening skills);
- Connected to, with extensive knowledge of, Social Media platforms ;
- Ability to work collaboratively with youths and with Isaruit’s staff team, including elders, and arts workers ;
- Familiarity with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Principles;
- Willingness to develop personal Inuit cultural skills
- A great interest in Inuit arts and Inuit cultural values, traditions and skills in general.
Work expectations:
$20 per hour, 25 hours per week, some flexible hours, with possibility of full time hours within two months and pay review after 90 days probation
Under the supervision of the Centre Coordinator work flexible hours , always with one other staff person, at the Isaruit main office , & Room #117 & Sewing Rooms #302 and #316, at 815 St. Laurent Blvd. Isaruit is committed to providing a welcoming, safe, and non-violent working environment.
