Grounded in Inuit Knowledge
Principles that Guide Our Path
These 8 core governing principles reflect the traditional knowledge, skills, and values that have guided the organization of Inuit families and communities for generations. They shape everything we do at Isaruit – from daily programming to long-term vision – and ensure that Isaruit remains a space of healing, creation, and connection.

1. Tunnganarniq
Fostering good spirits by being open, welcoming, and inclusive.
We strive to make every person feel safe and valued – whether it’s their first visit or their hundredth.

2. Qanuqtuurniq
Being innovative and resourceful.
We encourage creativity, problem-solving, and adaptability – whether in sewing, sculpture, or community-building.

3. Pijittirniq
Serving and providing for family and/or community.
Our work is rooted in generosity. We lift each other up and share what we have.

4. Havaqatigiingniq / Ikajuqtigiingniq
Working together for a common cause.
Collaboration is central. We believe in mutual support and shared goals.

5. Inuuqatigiittiarniq
Respecting others, relationships, and caring for people.
We build trust and connection through kindness, humility, and understanding.

6. Avatiptigiinikk Munarittiarniq
Respect and care for the land, animals, and the environment.
Art and life are connected to the land. We honour and protect it through our work.

7. Pilimmakharniq / Pijariuqarniq
Development of skills through observation, mentoring, practice, and effort.
We believe in learning by doing – with patience, guidance, and curiosity.

8. Aajiiqatigiingniq
Decision-making through discussion and consensus.
Our approach is inclusive. We take time to listen and decide together.

Principles in Practice
More Than Words
These principles aren’t just ideas – they in-form and inspire our workshops, programs, partnerships, and every conversation we have. They remind us that community care, cultural preservation, and creativity go hand in hand.
